Sonnenschein - sunshine - le soleil

Hallo zusammen !

“Always look on the bright side of life!“

Hey there!

The time seems to pass even quicker than usual. In school, we are slowly approaching the exams which will begin in the midst of May. On the 12th March I went to the harbour with Viki where we were talking for almost two hours. Last Saturday then I met her for the last time, as she moved back to Hungary last Monday. We were both rather sad. On Sunday I walked the South West Coast Path to Shaldon (about 5 miles) to get the whole thing out of my mind. The sun was shining and there was not a single cloud on the sky. The fields and meadows were green, the flowers and bushes were flowering and the insects were humming while many birds were singing – it was clearly Spring! I walked through the tiny town of Shaldon (it’s rather a village, really) and crossed a bridge to Teignmouth where I continued my walk until I reached the coast i.e. the beach again. I walked along it and afterwards went back to find café Ode in Shaldon. I followed the suggestion of my History teacher to eat one of their Brownies – and it was the best of my life, honestly! The view on Teignmouth was really worth seeing although I preferred having a view onto the sea on my way to Shaldon. Eventually, I went back to Torquay by bus and I was actually pretty proud to have been walking 10 miles (about 16 kilometres).
This Wednesday I went to the café at Babbacombe with an English friend and we enjoyed our Cream Tea while talking. Yesterday I had to stay in as I was expecting a parcel. To be honest, though, it was good to have a day of relaxation. Changing my host family does not really progress as the whole process is much more complicated than I would have thought.
Today I went by bus to Greenway, where Agatha Christie used to live. I could see her house itself but also the great estate with beautiful gardens full of flowers and trees and everything. It was truly magnificent and once I even saw the head of a seal in the turquoise water of the river Dart.
When the weather is good – which it has been quite often recently – there is nothing more beautiful than the soft green hills of South England and the smell and sound of the sea. “Always look on the bright side of life!”

Salut!
«Always look on the bright side of life ! »

Frühling - spring - le printemps

Hallo!

Hello!

There’s not a lot to tell today, and there aren’t many photos, although we had a lot of sunshine during the last two weeks. Last weekend I was slacklining on Saturday and went to the Bygones in St. Marychurch, a museum about Victorian times, but also other periods of English History. Afterwards I went to a café near Babbacombe Cliff Railway and enjoyed the great views onto the sea and along the coast line while I was eating my Scone (Cream Tea). On Sunday, Viki and I went to the café again, as it was raining all day long. We were talking for about 4 hours – it was wonderful.

During the last week, there was a French girl who stayed here. We talked quite a lot in French – and we had some great fun together. It was pretty cool to have something like a ‘secret language’ that only we understood. Lately I’ve been preparing a change of host family – there is a really nice woman at school who would be prepared to take me. We just have to clarify everything with my local-coordinator. On the one hand, I never wanted to change host family, I just wished to have a good time with them. On the other hand, I realize every day, that I want to make the best of this short year (or the rest of it)and that it isn’t possible when I stay where I am. To live with people who are just happy that I don’t make any trouble and who are looking forward to my departure is nothing one could ever get used to.

On Friday afternoon, I went to Watcombe Beach and sat there for about one hour on a rock just looking at the sea. It was a beautiful day; the sea was calm and the sky pink and light blue. Yesterday I met Esther, my German friend, and we walked through the town centre. We found a little second-hand shop with eccentric clothes in which we stayed for quite a while. After buying the food for the week, we both went home. In the evening, I looked through a list of suggestions (what to do on my weekends) and looked up how to get to the places / beaches / sights. Today the sun was still shining (it was indeed rather warm!) so I went to the beach again and read for two hours. The sunshine on my face, the wind in my hair, the smell of sea in my nose… it was wonderful.

Salut!
